The impact a children’s TV show can have on a disabled child’s life.

I produced a five minute radio package exploring the impact a children’s TV programme has on a disabled child’s life.

Jordan Toynton, from Ely, Cambridgeshire, has profound multiple learning difficulties with global delay.

The CBeebies programme Something Special which is aimed at disabled children and other kids, helps him to communicate through signing and appears to change his behaviour. The TV show also helps take away some of the pressure from his family while they give him the 24-hour care he needs.

This news report was nominated for the ‘Best Radio Journalism’ award by BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Anna Foster at the University of Salford Journalism Awards 2015.
