Journalism in today’s world
I completed a three day journalism course at Bauer Media’s Key103 in September 2015. This course called ‘Journalism for Today’s World’ was run by the Bauer Academy, a company which helps give young people opportunities in the radio industry. The course covered voice training, interviewing skills, news writing, law, learning how to use kit such as a mrantz and we were introduced to Dalet, Bauer’s editing software.
At the end of the three days, we produced a 10 minute radio news programme in groups. I carried out several interviews and gathered content for the programme and took on the role of the news reader.

Advanced presenting course
I have also completed a six week Advanced Presenting course at Key103, which was offered to me via The Bauer Academy. During the course, we were given presenting tips and feedback from professional presenters such as Heat’s breakfast presenter Fiona Sadler and Key103’s mid-morning presenter Darren Proctor. We recorded various presenter live reads in the studios, presented promotional links for Key103’s sponsors, were taught some interviewing techniques and told stories on air. We also had a go at scripting and presenting a traffic and travel bulletin.
